TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF THE FEED-SAVING TRAY FOR PIGLETS IN THE NURSERY PHASE

The feed-saving tray is an accessory available on the market, it must be attached to feeders for pigs to reduce feed waste by animals. However, little is known about the real benefits of this accessory in the performance of piglets in the nursery phase. Thus, this study aims to verify the influence of the feed-saving tray on the zootechnical performance of piglets in the nursery phase. For this, a circular feeder with the feed-saving tray coupled (Treatment 1) and a rectangular feeder (Treatment 2) were arranged in two stalls. In two lots of piglets weaned at 28 days, feed intake, weight gain, average daily weight gain and feed conversion were measured. The data obtained showed no statistical difference between treatments. In conclusion, the feed-saving tray did not influence the zootechnical performance of piglets in the nursery phase.
