Aspectos ultrassonográficos da glândula tireoide em equinos

Resumo

Tireopatias em equinos são pouco relatadas na rotina clínica, pois apresentam evolução
silenciosa, evidenciando-se quando há um considerável aumento de volume na região
proximal ventrolateral do pescoço. Neoformações da tireoide podem comprometer estruturas
adjacentes à glândula, como a traqueia, ocasionando estridor respiratório, intolerância ao
exercício e, nos casos mais graves, sufocamento. Na medicina humana e veterinária de
pequenos animais, o exame ultrassonográfico já é utilizado com frequência para melhor
caracterizar alterações importantes em casos de doenças da glândula tireoide (GT).
Entretanto, existem poucos estudos relacionados ao emprego da ultrassonografia (USG) como
método de avaliação da GT em cavalos. Esta revisão de literatura tem como objetivo reunir
informações sobre importância do uso da USG como recurso no diagnóstico de afecções
tireodianas em equinos.
