Abstract

Pelvimetry consists of the metric determination of pelvic dimensions, and its use is directly related to reproduction, being a prophylactic method against childbirth complications caused by deformation, malformation or sequelae of conditions present in this bone structure. However, there are few reports about the pelvimetry technique in agouti, especially in young animals. Thus, the aim of this research was to describe the pelvic characteristics of young agoutis (Dasyprocta prymnolopha), up to 1 year old, through external and internal (radiographic) measurements, and to evaluate the existence of pelvic differences regarding sex in these animals. Nineteen agoutis up to 01 year old (11 females and 08 males) from the Center for Studies, Production and Preservation of Wild Animals (NEPPAS) of the Center for Agricultural Sciences (CCA) of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) were used. The external parameters measured were the external biiliac diameter; external bischiatic diameter; right and left external iliosciatic diameters. The internal diameters were evaluated through radiographic examination in which it was measured: true conjugate diameter; the diagonal conjugate diameter; the vertical diameter; the sacral diameter; sagittal diameter; diameter of the coxal tuberosity; upper biiliac diameter; lower biiliac diameter; and bischiatic diameter. From the results obtained, it is concluded that young agoutis can be classified as dolicopelvic, showing differences in the sizes of the pelvis between males and females. In addition, there is a high correlation between the weight of the animals and the external and internal pelvic diameters, between the external and internal diameters and between the internal diameters.
