Abstract

Bacteria from generus Clostridium are rod, Gram-positive and anaerobic bacteria. Clostridial infections are considered one of the most important group of diseases of domestic animals, mainly in ruminants. Most pathogenic clostridial species are able to sporulate and has a marked dissemination in the environment, making infections and poisoning by these bacteria virtually impossible to eradicate. The aim of this review is to describe main clostridial diseases from domestic animals in Brazil, focusing in main features and occurrence of botulism, tetanus, myonecrosis (gas gangrene and blackleg), diseases by C. perfringens and diarrhea and colitis caused by C. difficile.
