Veterinary anesthesiology aims primarily to induce unconsciousness and amnesia, prevent pain perception, ensure animal restraint and immobilization, and promote muscle relaxation. A common approach to maintaining general anesthesia is through the intravenous administration of drugs, known as Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA). This technique involves the combination of parenteral anesthetics that, in essence, meet all the essential criteria for effective anesthesia. In situations where the use of an inhalation technique is not feasible or contraindicated, it is crucial for all anesthetists to be able to competently and safely perform TIVA. This case study is intended to investigate the application of total intravenous anesthesia in a diaphragmatic hernia surgery as a practical example.
