Iatrogenic urethral rupture is usually a secondary intercurrence to the forced passage of rigid probes during attempted urethral clearance. This procedure is performed as an immediate elimination of urine in cases of acute retention in order to provide greater comfort to the animal and improvement of clinical conditions. Felines are frequently affected by urinary disorders and urethrostomy is the surgical intervention indicated when the attempt to clear the catheter is not successful or when the animal has constant recurrences. The present study aims to demonstrate the use of a temporary urinary diversion technique in feline with rupture of the urethra made from the insertion of a Foley type probe in the ventral region of the bladder and fixation of this to the abdominal wall so that the urine could be conducted to the external environment.
