Abstract

Were investigated in vitro sensitivity of 54 strains of Arcanobacterium pyogenes isolated from pyogenic infections in bovines from region of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo. The antimicrobial agents that showed good effectiveness against the isolates were ceftriaxone (83.33%), penicillin G (79.63%), ampicillin (74.07%), amoxicillin (74.07%) and gentamicin (74.07%). In contrast, the antimicrobials with poor effectiveness were tetracycline (68.52%), florfenicol (66.67%), norfloxacin (64.81%), streptomycin (50%) and sulphonamides (37.04%). It is concluded that beta-lactam antimicrobials are a good choice for the treatment of infections with A. pyogenes in cattle.
