Abstract

The performance in the commercial breeding of silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) depend largely on the quality of the leaf provided. Although there are artificial diets specifically formulated, the mulberry leaf is still the cheapest source of food and used in most producing countries. Thus, efforts have been conducted to produce and make available material of high mutritional value, which meets the biological and productive needs of the insect. The lifting and presentation of the main techniques, strategies and substances that directly or indirectly applied in the mulberry, promote food supplementation in silkworm is the purpose of this review, as well as suggest and discuss new possibilities, giving the producer an alternative to nutritional management more dynamic and rational.
