The vampire bat Desmodus rotundus is the main transmitter of rabies among domestic herbivores, which causes enormous economic losses in livestock farming in Latin America. Using a decision analysis model using multiple criteria in a Geographic Information System (GIS), it was possible to integrate the information related to the variables “Population of D. rotundus existing in shelters” and “Euclidean distance from bat shelters” and generate a map of areas vulnerable to attacks by D. rotundus on cattle in the central eastern region of the state of São Paulo - Brazil. 1566 D. rotundus were found distributed in 93 shelters in 18 municipalities. Most of the studied region presented medium vulnerability to attacks by D. rotundus, in three large regions with different dimensions, separated by areas of low and very low vulnerability. The municipalities with very high vulnerability areas to attacks on herbivores by D. rotundus were São Carlos, Araraquara, Ribeirão Bonit and Dobrada and the municipalities with areas of high vulnerability to attacks on herbivores by D. rotundus were São Carlos, Araraquara, Descalvado, Ribeirão Beautiful and Golden. The municipalities of Monte Alto, Candido Rodrigues, Taquaritinga, Tabatinga, Santa Lucia, Américo Brasiliense, Boa Esperança do Sul and Trabiju presented areas of very low to medium vulnerability. The use of a model of areas vulnerable to attacks by D. rotundus on cattle using multi-criteria analysis in GIS provides elements that can help to outline management strategies to combat and prevent the occurrence of bovine rabies in herds, allowing time and resources to be optimized.
