ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHIC FINDINGS IN BOXER DOGS

Abstract

The electrocardiogram analysis on different dog breeds shows the possibility of normal values variation. Electrocardiograms were recorded from 60 Boxer dogs. Both male and female dogs were included. The dogs were distributed in six age ranges. Body measurements including body weight, muzzle-to-base of tail, thoracic circumference, thoracic depth and width were also recorded. The electrocardiographic waves and intervals were evaluated on lead II. Rhythm and heart rate (HR) were also determined in lead II and the mean electrical axis of the QRS complexes was estimated. Females had a higher heart rate than males in all age groups. Gender and age significantly influenced body weight, muzzle-to-base of tail, thoracic circumference, and thoracic depth, whereas only age affected the thoracic width. The electrocardiographic characteristics and body measurements observed in this study demonstrated that there are gender, and age differences among Boxers. It also provided information about normal electrocardiographic findings in this particular breed.
