Abstract

In spite ovariectomy and ovariosalpingohysterectomy are considered technically easy surgical procedures, complications may occur during transoperative, and immediate, mediate and late postoperative. The most frequent complication observed during ovariohysterectomy procedure is hemorrhage. In addition, hemorrhage, ligature or trauma to ureter, urinary incontinence, fistulous tracts and granulomas, ovary remanescent syndrome, problems associated with celiotomy, piometra, and intestinal obstruction are reported among the complications observed in the postoperative period. Since the increase amount of complications observed in small animal surgery and reproduction services from the Veterinary Hospital of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Unesp Botucatu, the aim of this report is to revise the complications of ovariohysterectomy more frequently reported in the literature and to report some cases observed in both services.
