Abstract

In 20 points distributed homogenously in the urban territorial area of 32Km2 of Botucatu, SP, blood samples were collected from 1,000 dogs. The sera were examined by the microscopic agglutination test (MAT) applied to leptospirosis, with 24 serovars of Leptospira spp. There were 179 reagents animals, with titer ≥ of 100. The Vila São Luís presented the highest prevalence (44.2%) and COHAB – V the lowest (6.0%). There were reactions for 20 serovars and the most frequent were: Castellonis (28.68%), Autumnalis (19.12%), Pyrogenes (17.65%), Icterohaemorrhagiae (11.03%) and Canicola (9.56%). The spatial distribution of reagent animals presented a weak dispersion profile, but with significative distinctions. The results revealed that reagent dogs can be a risk for public health, and could be indicators of different serovars presents in the area.
