MICROBIOLOGICAL CULTURE AND THE SENSIBILITY IN PATHOGENS ISOLATION ON BOVINE MASTITIS

Abstract

Milk is important to man diet and its quality is fundamental. The main problem in dairy herds that affects this quality and causes economic damage is the mastitis. The microbiological diagnosis of mastitis is the standard method to identify its etiology and it is important to guide the prophylactic measures. Considering that many studies report large percentage of negative lacto cultures, the aim of the present study was to evaluate microbiologically milk samples from subclinical mastitis cases using different techniques to improve the sensibility of microbiological exam and by reducing false negative results. Two hundred and twenty milk samples with CMT positive were studied. After centrifugation, pre incubation and freeze the percentages of positive cultures were 64,6%, 82,3% e 61,2%. There was sensibility improvement of microbiological exam by using centrifugation, pre incubation and freeze techniques when they was carried out separately or associated. We conclude that these techniques are recommended to improve the microbiological exam sensibility on subclinical mastitis diagnosis. Furthermore, the accurate detection of mastitis cases by agents as Staphylococcus aureus prevents the maintenance in herd of infected animals with a highly contagious pathogen what is the aim of control of many countries.
