SPRAY DRYER YEAST (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), AUTOLYSATE AND YEAST CELL WALLS ON POULTRY NUTRITION
Keywords:
performance, mannanoligosaccharides, growth promoter and carcass yieldAbstract
Spray dryer yeast is a feedstuff rich in protein and vitamins, and can be used as a source of
alternative nutrients and additives on poultry feeding. This research aimed to evaluate the
addition of 0.3% of yeast cell walls and 3.0% of dried yeast and autolysate on growth performance and carcass yield compared with diet absent of additive and supplemented with
additive growth promote. Six hundred male one-day-old chicks, Cobb strain, it were
distributed in randomized blocks with five treatments (without growth promoter, zinc
bacitracin and three yeast sources), with four replicates (30 birds each), totalizing 120 poultry
each treatment. Chickens were produced until 42 days of age. The data of performance were
obtained on 21 and 42 days. In the end of the experiment were used five chickens for replicate
(20 each treatment) which were identified, submitted to eight hours fasting and weighted after
carcass yield, cuts and abdominal fat were determined. The results showed no differences on
growth performance in the first period (21 days). Diets containing growth promoter, yeast cell
walls or autolysate yeast showed the best feed conversion (42 days). Diet containing no
additives determined the highest feed consumption. There was no significant difference for
others productive performance parameters as well as to carcass yield and cuts. The cell wall
of yeast and yeast autolysate may replace antibiotic growth promoters, without affecting the
performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens.
