Fatal case by multiresistant Streptococcus canis

Abstract

It is described the occurrence of a fatal case of septicaemia in a pinscher dog by multiresistant Streptococcus canis. The physical exam of the animal showed weak pulse, tachycardia, tachypnea and vaginal discharge mucus-purulent with blood. The isolates, obtained from the microbiological culture of fragments of lung, uterus and uterine contents were tested front to 30 antimicrobial drugs, been noted the presence of multiple resistance front to 11 drugs for the lung isolate and nine for the uterine isolate. It is emphasized in this report the importance of S. canis as the causal agent of severe infections in dogs and its high resistance to antimicrobial drugs routinely used in veterinary medicine.
